Call for CCTV in Care Homes

CCTV cameras could be used to monitor the quality of services provided by care homes under new plans from the health and social care watchdog.

The Care Quality Commission is proposing the potential use of hidden surveillance due to the number of high-profile abuse cases in recent years.

Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, Andrea Sutcliffe also outlined plans for revising the regulations of social care describing how CCTV might be used to make services safer; “we would like to have an open conversation with people about the use of mystery shoppers and hidden cameras, and whether they would contribute to promoting a culture of safety and quality, while respecting people’s rights to privacy and dignity.
