Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR)

What is ANPR Technology?

Automatic number-plate recognition (ANPR) is a technology that uses optical character recognition on images to read vehicle registration plates to create vehicle location data. It can use existing closed-circuit television, road-rule enforcement cameras, or cameras specifically designed for the task.

Automatic number-plate recognition can be used to store the images captured by the cameras as well as the text from the license plate, with some configurable to store a photograph of the driver. Systems commonly use infrared lighting to allow the camera to take the picture at any time of day or night

How Does ANPR Work?

The cameras use built-in algorithms to auto-detect and capture vehicle number plates and store the details in a database. The cameras can capture and store number plate snapshot images on an SD card or on the network video recorder with a date and time log as well as offering a whitelist/blacklist feature that can trigger set events based on stored number plates. They allow alerts to be sent and also a complete history of any vehicle that has passed.

The ANPR camera range incorporates high-quality 4-megapixel images, varifocal lens, headlight anti-dazzle and long-range IR LEDs for number plate recognition up to 40 metres away.
